RUBY CREEK MAINLINE - Bulletin
Kris Pohl reported on: Sep 12, 2024
Car is parked (lower right) on Otter Creek Rd (as per Gaia) and Ruby wanders off in the distance in centre frame.
Road is in great condition right up to the gate (marked in Gaia on Otter Creek Road). Driving on the lava rock is so cool. Ruby Creek continues down into the valley below, and looks in decent condition as well. We just drove up to the area to check out the volcano cone. There's no real trailhead, but we climbed a hill for some views of the valley. Highly recommend checking out Atlin, Kershaw's Coffee, and the volcano field and surrounding roads.

We didn't take the marked road up to the Boulder Dam, just past the Surprise Lake Rec Site. It looked like it was in decent shape, but I can't report on how much the "high clearance 4x4" recommendation is true.

Wow cool area! I think you have the record for the furthest north road report in BC! Let me know if there's any roads that need drawing in. Looks like most of these mining roads are missing up north

There are a lot, but I wasn't recording. There's one up to the Boulder Dam (Boulder Creek Road on Gaia) and also one to the Dredge and Flume rec site (on google maps, but no roads marked). We didn't have a chance to go up to the boulder dam, but in town they recommend high ckearance 4x4. The Dredge and Flume would be SUV appropriate, or about 2k walk in from the dam turnaround. The rec site doesnt have a great turnaround for trailers.

I wanted to explore more, but didn't have time.
