The road currently has about 30–40 cm of snow on it. We were able to drive up to around 2.7 km, the second parking area, but this requires a high-clearance 4x4 with lockers. Most people were turning around at 1.5 km, at the first parking lot for the Whistler Interpretive Forest. It’s easy to get stuck if you drive off the track, as the snow is faceted under a melt-freeze crust.
Just a reminder: the road is closed to motorized traffic after 4.6 km, including snowmobiles. Although the gate is currently shown as being at 3.5 km, it’s actually at 4.6 km, just at the fork of Cheakamus River 07.
The road above the gate has a few brushy spots, but nothing significant. All the bridges are in place, making for good ski touring. There are only two open creek crossings in the snow, both of which were easy to cross.
