Mike Hiker reported on: Jul 05, 2026
Right before the creek crossing just passed 2.5k there is a steep loose rocky section that will stop most stock 4x4's. More confident and capable vehicles will be able to pass it and the creek crossing right after. Where SL2 branches off is the best place to park for most people most AWD suv's should make it here no problem. Backing down the road from the steep rocky section to the SL2 branch was no fun in the dark there is a narrow section with the north side of the road eroding away.

After that the road is in good shape with some partially cleared trees for ATV's and dirt bikes to pass. We ebiked up the road and up the EC5000 branch. I will update that as well.

Gate was closed when we first drove by, but open when we left not long after. Looked bent. Didn't explore.
Heath Anderson reported on: Oct 18, 2025
Today I found the gate open and the road in decent condition.

The road is actually in pretty good shape up to the intersection with SL-2, and crossover types should have no issues getting to this point.

After this, the road rapidly deteriorates. The impasse at ~KM2.5 is non existent anymore, someone must've moved the boulders that prevented anything but dirt bikes and ATVs from getting past, however it is still fairly rough through this section.

Nothing else major up to EC5000.

Gated at start as of 7/6/2025. Road is freshly graded and good condition to junction with SL-2 at 600m. Beyond that is a rough section for a few hundred meters, probably passable only for 4WD, then somewhat degraded for next several km. After that road becomes progressively much worse. Totally blocked by landslide 0.5km from end.

Gated at 0km sign says active logging and there is an attendants staying just beyond the gate.
Eddy Van Der Kloot reported on: Apr 14, 2024
Boulder across the road at ~640m elevation, quickly followed by a large washout. This would be passable in a quad or dirt bike, but not a truck. Road up to that point was easily passable in a Subaru Forester, but somewhat degraded.

We took ebikes up past the washout to ~1000m elevation on the EC5000 (which does not end where shown on this site but actually continues up to the lake below Silver Peak at 1600m) where we hit snow. Snow was mostly continuous from that point on (skis off twice) but melting out rapidly.
