Road Bulletins
Bea C-p reported on: Jun 28, 2026
Most of the road is in good condition, similar to last year. Steep with some small water bars. One steep section has heavily degraded since last year with some deep erosion paths and loose gravel/cobbles. A culvert on a corner is half exposed. Just managed to make it up in a Forester but with continued use over the summer I think that section will continue deteriorate unless it's fixed.
Kilometers are approximate.

Owl Creek is in reasonable shape with quite a few small cross ditches in the latter half, and it's very steep in places. A part of me thinks an SUV will be okay to the trailhead with some careful driving, but 4x4 HC will certainly make things more comfortable. You might want to give the brakes a rest to cool off on the way down as you'll be fairly consistently riding the brakes otherwise.

No change from last bulletin, good 4wd condition, some sleeper waterbars (mellow but they sneak up on you).

The road is good to the Chain lakes trailhead. It is very steep in places so 4wd should be used. There are some new waterbars since last September so having some clearance on your vehicle is useful.
