The road overall is in good condition. As you get closer to Mud lakes, the amount of pot hole increases a lot. There is one section of the road which is narrow (one lane) and has rocks falling on it. I forgot to tag the spot, as I recall a little over half way. Between second Mud lake and third, it is 4x4 only and you will want to be confident with your driving abilities. I drove it in a 2002 4runner with only a mild lift.
