Road Bulletins
A narrow mining track that continues beyond the former Nahatlatch Fire Lookout site. The 2023 Kookipi Creek Fire burned the forest around it until just before 3.5 KMs. Quite rough near the start and quite narrow from its beginning to its end. From approximately 2.5 KMs to 4 KM, it is a shelf road, with a steep drop off on one side, and very few turnarounds, especially for anything longer than a two-door Jeep. I highly recommend walking and verifying the passability of this entire section of road before attempting to drive it, since there is frequent rockfall and deadfall since the fire, the road is acutely narrow here with vanishingly few turnarounds, and reversing would be sketchy. The final turnaround before the shelf road section is at approximately 50° 1'56.31"N 121°35'50.86"W. I would NOT take anything longer or wider than a Toyota Tacoma on this road. Road disappears into a wall of alder at its end at 7.5 KMs. Good camping spots around 5.5 KMs.
