Unchanged from previous reports. We rode emtn bikes as far as Pykette Creek. A few large washouts and creeks to push through and lots of down trees/branches you can mostly ride over. Saves time on a bike but still took us over an hour to get to Pykett.
Log bridge over Pykett still in great shape.
Walked to A1100 to access Chimai. You could bike this section as well but with increasing obstacles its probably not worth it.
Road in perfect condition to the end of the branch but you can’t drive over the bridge. There’s a big blockade, and the bridge is kinda rotting anyway. I walked over the bridge and the rest of the road looks walkable, in decent condition. You could probably get a dirt bike or e-bike up there :)
Photos from the last report are still accurate
Lock blocks @ KM6.8 Ashlu Falls Bridge pushed aside again, bridge deck seems ok, I didn't check support beams but drove across quickly. 2wd ok to here. Washout immediately after the bridge that requires moderate clearance, steep(ish) hill slightly bushy to Rob Creek 0.8km past the bridge. Massive washout here that only dirt bikes or *maybe* rock crawlers can pass. Road in good condition for MTB to Red Mountain Creek (maintained by kayakers), Pykett Creek log crossing in excellent shape. Crossed Red Mountain Creek on sketchy thin log, tons of deadfall in the couple kms immediately after the crossing, but otherwise fairly open with minimal bushwhacking to A1300 turnoff. Thereafter get ready for alders, I did some lopping on my way to Shortcut Creek so that you can now mostly walk through without breaking stride but it is still bushy + will grow back fast. Every second bridge or culvert is washed out, so there are some extra fun bushwhacks around those + they are only going to get worse.
