Red Mountain Creek
Pykett Creek - David Reid's awesome log crossing bridge on left
Easy travel through this section, almost like a trail
Lock blocks @ KM6.8 Ashlu Falls Bridge pushed aside again, bridge deck seems ok, I didn't check support beams but drove across quickly. 2wd ok to here. Washout immediately after the bridge that requires moderate clearance, steep(ish) hill slightly bushy to Rob Creek 0.8km past the bridge. Massive washout here that only dirt bikes or *maybe* rock crawlers can pass. Road in good condition for MTB to Red Mountain Creek (maintained by kayakers), Pykett Creek log crossing in excellent shape. Crossed Red Mountain Creek on sketchy thin log, tons of deadfall in the couple kms immediately after the crossing, but otherwise fairly open with minimal bushwhacking to A1300 turnoff. Thereafter get ready for alders, I did some lopping on my way to Shortcut Creek so that you can now mostly walk through without breaking stride but it is still bushy + will grow back fast. Every second bridge or culvert is washed out, so there are some extra fun bushwhacks around those + they are only going to get worse.

Bridge over the Ashlu is deteriorating badly and the North Bank under-pinnings are rotting and coming loose. The top of the bridge looks mostly ok, but it's sat on a metal bridge sat on a wooden bridge base so it's likely to collapse at some point and is ear-marked for removal. The Bridge is officially closed but the blocks and chains have been removed several times. With that said a determined group of 4x4 made it all the way to Pykett Creek and cut back a lot of the alder so it's very walkable right now.
