Road Bulletins

Christine the land steward is happy the mine is finally shut down as of a year ago. So with no active mining or logging going on, the road is being littered with rock fall as shown in Sean's previous bulletin. If I knew how much rockfall there was I would have packed a large pry bar just incase I need to move a boulder that can't be moved by hand. All it takes is 1 to ruin the start of your day or even worse trying to get home. We parked just after the bridge around 37km for an ascent of Yalakom Mountain.

Example of one of the many sketchy landslide/rockfall sections
This might've been the biggest fallen rock I saw bit there were others not much smaller
Deer on the road up ahead, also saw a bear just after chatting with Christine. All bridges I crossed seemed to be in good condition
Drove as far as KM35.75. Road is in good shape for the most part except it crosses many many areas exposed to rockfall & landslides from above. The road was never steep so even an SUV with decent tires can make it, might just need to move more rocks out of the way. Air down & drive slow across the rock slide areas, the rock is sharp shale.

Be sure to take the time to stop & chat with Christine who is the First Nations land steward, she is a lovely lady & can explain the history of the area.
