One treatment of insecticide application by helicopter to control populations of the western spruce budworm. Spray will be conducted in the early morning on or about about June 1st-July 1st, 2026. No idea if it happened already or not.
Road was good condition. Gate still open. Some erosion just before McNair TH immediately after the bridge. We likely could’ve made it fine but didn’t try because we were only 50m from TH. Stock Toyota 4Runner. Consider bringing saw, decent amount of trees down, luckily able to move them
Bear Creek FSR was in good condition to the Mount McNair trailhead. Gate was open and road had been regraded. If anything this road is in better shape than Harrison East at present.
Gate at 2km is open! Road was in great condition up to 2193-4 branch, barely any potholes if any at all. Didn’t get a look at anything further than that. I’m assuming the road has held up well from when they last would’ve graded it for a cut block that was finished in June 2024.
Gate at 2km is locked, nowhere to park or turn around but small pullout for 2 vehicles 150m back. Plenty of space to get a bike through, there is a man living in a 5th wheel just behind the gate on the locked side (generator running, pop-outs, truck, motorbike). As I was passing the guy came out of the bushes in his underwear & yelled at me to stop & come back to talk to him. I told him I could hear whatever he had to say. "It's an active work zone in here, I'd prefer you don't go ahead but I can't stop you." Ok, I told him I wasn't interested in his work zone & was going for a hike. He asked that I don't vandalize any of the equipment, I agreed & went on my way. Road is in great condition, the logging is up a spur around KM6 but nothing happening today (Saturday). I biked to KM7
