Same conditions as reported earlier. Some spots are rough but with at least AWD, confidence, and picking good lines you can make it pretty far. A Nissan rogue made it to the final 1km
As per usual, crossovers or better to get up. Watch the water bars and probably have AWD at least and you'll be okay
Snow above 1000m starting to accumulate in the afternoon, couple cms there when we left. Small ruts lower down but nothing problematic yet. If the metal dome hordes show up, they may worsen 😅
No waterbars but moderate clearance and AWD needed as the hills are loose and rough with some good size rocks laying around.
Some water bars that will make you want okay clearance/angles but my Jeep compass was fine, a Crosstrek also got up. Was snowy in the last 1km or so, but tire tracks were down to dirt
I'm sure by now it's a sled road but wanted to correct the 4x4 required state from the last update. Crossovers are still probably enough
Drove to the end. No better or worse than last year. Need 4WD/AWD for the climb up and some decent clearance to get past the waterbars without scraping.
[From Mike Buda] - driveable up to the first switchback at 930m probably without chains. Above 1000m the snowpack on the road will be difficult driving. Skinnable starting at 800m but really only skiable heading down to about 1000m.
Wet melting snow on the road increasing with elevation. Lots of vehicles parked before the first big switchback (~930m elevation), we drove further up the hill until deciding to call it when there was enough snow on the road for skinning & a good parking/turnaround spot at ~1,000m elevation. Could have put on chains & driven higher but probably not worth the hassle. Few more vehicles parked from 1,000-1,050m, one RAV4 made it to almost 1,100m stopping just before the 2nd switchback. On our way down was surprised to see a Mazda CX50 had taken advantage of the melt & driven above 1,150m, impressive! Anyway, this road will be snowmobile territory for the winter soon, in recent summers I've driven to its end & to 1,400m on Metal Dome spur in a stock Suzuki XL7.
Trail to the upper parking lot is very steep and has some rough and loose rock sections. Roads seams worn out from not suitable vehicles. Last kms has many large cross ditches. 4x4 is recommended. 4Runner with 3“ lift had no problem. Got a nail in my tire on this road. Be aware.
