Road Bulletins
First 500m ok with 2wd, AWD/2WD should park here. At KM1 there is a hill (10-12° steep) with some big dips & bumps. 4-lo recommended. A Ford Bronco didn't make it up this hill (driver error) but with careful line choice most 4WD trucks should be ok (was totally fine in my CCLB Frontier with open diffs). Getting bushy above the hill, I didn't drive the last km today, instead took "FM2".
Road condition described very well in the last report from Heath, it was no problem in my truck through the first washouts but SUVs would struggle I think. I'd recommend something with decent clearance & 4-lo. I could've driven all the way to the trailhead but after stopping to inspect the final washout ~400m from the end my gf insisted we turn around & park! I chainsawed up a fallen tree & used it to make the turnaround area safer
Road as definitely seen better days. Few large washouts to compete with, Tacomas and Jeeps will be able to walk though them. Medium clearance awd vehicles may need a spotter and some nerves of steel. Luckily the hardest washout is the first. If you can make it past there you can probably make it all the way. If not there is a large pullout at 500m.
Decided to try my luck here in a stock 4th gen 4Runner but did not proceed past the 2nd switchback due to the tricky ruts and large cross ditch. Walking past it a ways it seems the rest of the road is still in good condition though.
[From Drew Allenby] - It was pretty sketchy on the second switchback but everything else was good. A few deactivations did a number on my front under tray and hitch
Aggressive washouts at the 2nd and 6th switch back will stop most vehicles. Guys in Lifted Jeeps and 4Runners were making it through no problem
