Decently graded fsr then it gets tight but not gnar for a little. Then it gets properly gnar. Small creek crossing (water not deep but need good angles), off camber sections due to ruts washing out, very rocky, deep ditches... We stopped at 1240m. Could maybe push a good 4wd past, but it was close enough to the top it wasn't worth pushing it for us.
Orange to red transition is an estimate
Free of snow to C-1100 (9km), recently graded. Phenomenal condition!
The rest of the snow should be clear in the next two weeks, for the final km.
Very overgrown and deteriorated after the C-1100 junction at roughly 9km. Saw one old 4wd pickup at the very top, but if you care about your paint I would stop here.
We parked at the bottom by the railroad tracks and skinned up this road. It seems to be mostly used by snowmobiles in the winter. The road is snow covered and smooth, but there are many loose rocks that the snowmobiles stir up on their way up the hill that would damage your ski bases if you skied down. There were a few cars parked at the switchback at 49.9693,-123.1666. An AWD car with good winter tires could drive to here. Beyond that there is a sign that says snow machines only, no cars or ATV's. After the Roe junction (49.9682,-123.1792) the road was still groomed and there were no rocks on the road anymore. Most snowmobile traffic seems to go up Roe Creek road. The road is groomed to the end of the clearcut at 49.9666,-123.2128. Beyond that the road has those continuous annoying waves caused by heavy snowmobile traffic. We skinned a short way up the Chance Tricouni spur. Despite it being a weekend we didn't see or hear any snowmobiles beyond the Roe junction.
Good condition to about 4 km. Lots of smoke coming from the piles. Reported and turned around.
We drove with a 2WD car with snow tires. Because of the snow/ice on the road, we stopped driving at 2.5km from the entrance instead of 5.0km where the Chance Creek FSR branches out. We stopped at one steep section with snow where I was not confident so I didn't want to push further and get stuck. A 4x4 should have no problem.
Except for the snow/ice, Chance Creek FSR looked in good shape. There was a small water bar that is possible to travel because it's only on the left side of the road. At 800m elevation, there is a large tree trunk on the left branch and there is a sign saying that the road further has been deactivated permanently.
On the right branch, there is a gate with a sign "ACTIVE MINING. Do not enter. Other than an Inspector authorized by the Manager ... or be permitted to enter..." Bellarock Enterprise 604-815-1323
[From Tareef Dedhar] - drove to 800m where the road forks off to the Roe C-600 Spur (Cloudburst Branch). No issues getting this far.
